The Life of the Báb: Herald of the Bahá’í Faith

Siyyid ‘Alí-Muhammad was born in Shíráz, Persia (now Iran) in 1819. On May 22, 1844, He announced that He was a Messenger of God. He became known as “the Báb,” meaning “the Gate” in Arabic. He gained thousands of followers, called Bábís. He taught that another Messenger of God would soon appear—Bahá’u’lláh.
